Book Loaning Scheme
At Briary Pre-School, every child can choose and borrow a book each week. We offer a wide range of age-appropriate books for children to select from, helping to encourage a love of reading from an early age.
Each child will receive a book wallet to safely carry their chosen book home. Books can be borrowed for one week. Once the book has been returned, your child can choose another exciting new adventure to enjoy.
Supporting Communication & Language
Our Book Lending Scheme supports our communication and language approach, including our ECAT (Every Child a Talker) programme.
At Pre-School, we plan daily activities that encourage and develop children’s listening, attention, understanding, and speaking skills.
Learning does not stop when children leave Pre-School — it continues at home. Sharing books together is a powerful way to support your child’s language development and confidence.
We recommend choosing a quiet time to read together, with minimal distractions such as television or background noise, so your child can fully focus and enjoy the story.

Borrowing Guidelines
-
Books can be borrowed for one week.
-
Books must be returned on the first day your child attends the following week.
-
If a book is not returned, your child will be unable to borrow another until it is brought back.
-
In some cases, a charge may be made to cover the cost of a lost or damaged book.
Making Story Time Special
Sharing a story with your child is so much more than just reading words on a page. You could:
-
Read a book together
-
Talk about your day
-
Discuss the pictures
-
Make up a new ending
-
Create sound effects
-
Retell the story
-
Ask questions about what might happen next
-
Read the book again (repetition builds confidence and understanding)
-
Sing nursery rhymes
These simple activities make a big difference to your child’s communication skills, imagination, and love of learning.
